Scrum Alliance® micro-credential

AI for Product Owners

This course covers where AI helps a product owner and where it can't: prompting for backlog items and user stories, streamlining scrum events, forecasting, and the ethics and data risks that come with all of it.

Who this course is for

If your job involves defining what gets built and then getting it built, this course is aimed at you, whatever your title says. It's the right fit if you:

  • Own a backlog and want to know which parts of the work AI can genuinely take off your plate
  • Have tried a chatbot on a user story, gotten something plausible but wrong, and want to know why
  • Are being asked by leadership to "use AI" without much guidance on where or how
  • Need to answer questions about data handling and vendor risk before your team can adopt a tool
  • Work as a product manager, business analyst, or team lead rather than a formally titled product owner

No AI background required. If you can write a user story, you can take this course.

What you'll learn

The modules are set by Scrum Alliance. The prompts, examples, and practice come from real product work, and you'll spend most of the session with your hands on the tools rather than watching slides.

Backlog and requirements

  • Prompting for backlog items, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Where generated stories go wrong, and how to catch it
  • Refining and splitting work with AI assistance

Strategy and roadmapping

  • Market research and audience insight without outsourcing your judgment
  • Turning research into a product vision you can defend
  • Roadmap scenarios and trade-off analysis

Scrum events and forecasting

  • Streamlining planning, refinement, and reviews
  • Forecasting and capacity questions, and their limits
  • Summarizing without losing the signal

Ethics, data, and risk

  • What not to paste into a prompt, and why
  • Bias, hallucination, and accountability for the output
  • Talking to security and legal before you adopt a tool

Why take it with Phase Won

There is a lot of noise about AI and product work right now, most of it written by people who have never owned a backlog. I've spent twenty years deciding what to build in regulated industries where a wrong answer is expensive, and I teach these tools the same way I'd use them: helpful for the first draft, useless as the final word, and dangerous if you feed them the wrong data.

You'll leave with a prompt library you keep, a clear sense of which parts of your week AI can actually shorten, and the vocabulary to have the security conversation at your own company.

How the micro-credential works

  1. Attend and take part. There's no exam. You earn the credential by completing the full session and participating in the exercises.
  2. Get your badge. Scrum Alliance issues a digital AI for Product Owners badge you can add to LinkedIn and your resume. Micro-credentials never expire.
  3. Join the community. Your seat includes a two-year Scrum Alliance membership: a profile in the member directory, user groups, and discounts on events. Existing members earn Scrum Education Units toward renewals.
  4. Stack it. This course pairs with Agile Essentials for a team that's new to agile, and with the Certified ScrumMaster for the people leading the work.

Common questions

Do I need to be a product owner?

No. If your work involves defining a product or service and bringing it into reality, the course applies. Product managers, business analysts, and team leads all fit.

Which AI tools do you use?

The course is tool-agnostic and the techniques transfer. In private cohorts I'll work with whatever your organization has approved, which is usually the more useful exercise anyway.

Do I need a paid AI subscription?

Not for the public class; free tiers are enough for the exercises. For private cohorts I'll match the session to the tools and access your team already has.

Is there a test?

No exam. You earn the micro-credential by attending the full session and participating.

Ready to put AI to work on your product?

Tell me who's in the room and which tools you're allowed to use. I'll recommend a format and send a quote within two business days.
